JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF. Arrange your images into animation frames.

How to create an animated GIF from images

1. Add your pictures

Select several images or drop them together. Your frame list appears beside a large preview. Add more images whenever you need them.

2. Arrange and set timing

Reorder, duplicate or remove frames. Choose a canvas size, frame delays and looping. Select individual frames to choose Fit or Fill, zoom and drag them into position.

3. Create and inspect

Select Create GIF. Check the exported colors, animation, dimensions and file size, then use Download GIF to save the finished file.

Pair this with

Make slideshows, product sequences and simple animations

Combine photographs into a short slideshow, show several product views or animate a sequence of illustrations. Frames can have different source sizes and proportions. Choose one output canvas for the whole animation, with square, portrait, landscape and custom options. Fit at 100% zoom keeps each image complete with padding, while Fill covers the frame and crops excess content. A notice highlights mixed proportions. Select a frame to adjust its own Fit/Fill mode, zoom and position. Pause and drag inside the outlined preview to review what stays visible. Reset this frame restores Fit, 100% zoom and centered placement.

Prepare a consistent crop with Crop Image or standardize dimensions with Bulk Image Resizer. Add labels with Add Text to Image before uploading the finished frames.

Control speed, direction and repetition

Frame delays determine how long each image stays visible. For example, a 500 ms delay holds each frame for half a second. Apply one delay to all frames or select a frame to give it a longer pause.

Reverse changes the order. Ping-pong travels forward and back, with each endpoint shown once per cycle. Loop forever for repeated playback, play once or specify a total number of plays. Browser timing can vary slightly.

GIF quality and file size

GIF reduces each frame to a palette of up to 256 colors. This suits simple graphics, but photos and smooth gradients may show banding. Detailed sampling can improve color selection; dithering can soften banding by adding a fine pattern. Always inspect the exported GIF because the editing preview shows the source colors.

Smaller dimensions and fewer frames usually give smaller files. A longer delay slows playback without reducing the number of images being encoded. The result panel displays the actual download size. For a single still image, consider JPG to WebP or PNG to WebP instead. Use Compress GIF to optimize an existing animation.

Private processing and sensible mobile limits

The encoder and worker load only after you select Create GIF. Frames are decoded in sequence, then encoded in background workers. The encoder retains frame pixels during creation, so the tool checks the combined workload before export. These checks reduce risk but cannot guarantee that every device can handle every animation.

Mobile mode starts at 480 × 480 pixels and uses one worker. Desktop starts at 720 × 720 pixels and uses two. You can change the dimensions. Source images are downscaled to a maximum 1600-pixel side and two million pixels. If the job is too large, reduce dimensions or remove frames. Cancel stops encoding while keeping your frame list.

The tool encodes newly rendered pixels and does not copy the original EXIF or GPS metadata. It makes an opaque GIF with the selected background color, not a layered editing document. Use Remove Image Background for transparent still cutouts.

GIF encoding uses the MIT-licensed gif.js browser encoder. This version creates GIFs from still images, without video extraction or existing GIF frame editing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a GIF from pictures?

Choose JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF images. Arrange the frames, choose output dimensions and set frame delays. Select Create GIF, inspect the exported animation and download the GIF.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

Your images are decoded, arranged and encoded in your browser. The GIF encoder loads only when you select Create GIF. This tool does not send your images to a processing server.

Can I set a different duration for each frame?

Yes. Select a frame and change its delay in milliseconds. Click outside the field to apply it. You can also set a delay and apply it to all frames. Delays are rounded to 10-millisecond steps, from 20 to 10000 milliseconds.

Can I reverse a GIF or make it loop?

For this animation, select Forward, Reverse or Ping-pong playback. Set it to play forever, once or a specified number of times. Ping-pong adds the interior frames in reverse order without duplicating the endpoints.

Does my GIF have to be square?

No. Initial dimensions follow the first accepted image, so portrait and landscape photos keep their proportions. Keep aspect ratio updates the other dimension when you change width or height. Turn it off to set dimensions independently. Choose a square, portrait or landscape canvas, match the first uploaded image or use Match selected image. Canvas changes apply to the whole animation; framing controls apply to an individual image.

How do I combine portrait and landscape images?

Choose an output canvas and use Fit to keep complete images visible with padding, or Fill to cover the canvas with cropping. The tool shows a notice when source proportions differ. Select each frame to zoom or drag it within the outlined canvas, then review the animation. Apply Fit/Fill to all resets zoom and centers every frame.

Will adding or rearranging images change my GIF dimensions?

No. Adding, selecting, deleting or reordering frames preserves the canvas. Match selected image changes it explicitly. Match first uploaded image and Reset settings restore the starting dimensions of the current batch.

Why do the exported colors look different?

GIF has a palette of up to 256 colors per frame. Photos and gradients can lose detail during color reduction. Try Detailed color sampling or enable dithering, then review the exported GIF. Dithering can add grain and increase file size.

Can I make a GIF on my phone?

Yes, with supported mobile browsers and a moderate workload. Mobile mode starts with the first image's proportions, a longest side of up to 480 pixels and one encoding worker. Reduce dimensions or remove frames if the workload check reports that the animation is too large.

What files and dimensions are supported?

Use still JPG, PNG, WebP or browser-supported AVIF images under 40 MB and 25 megapixels each, with up to 300 frames. Source frames are resized to a maximum 1600-pixel side and two million pixels. GIF output supports dimensions from 16 to 1600 pixels, subject to the animation workload limit.

Can I upload a video or edit an existing animated GIF?

This version creates GIFs from still images. It does not extract frames from videos or existing animated GIFs. Animated image inputs in supported formats are treated as still images rather than preserving their animation.

Does it support transparent GIFs?

This version produces opaque GIFs. Transparent source areas are filled with your selected background color. Fit adds padding; Fill crops excess image content while keeping proportions. Each frame has its own fit, zoom and position controls.

How do I reduce the GIF file size?

For an existing animation, use our Compress GIF tool. Use smaller output dimensions, remove unnecessary frames or disable dithering if it increases the file size. Review the actual file size after encoding. Changing frame delay changes playback duration but does not remove frames.
