The Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia take adult passport photos at the passport office during your appointment, so you don't need to bring one. For a visa or another document that asks for 35 × 45 mm, use the Standard 35 × 45 mm preset.
How to make a passport photo online

Use a recent photo of one person facing the camera. iPhone HEIC photos work. The maker finds the face and frames it for the preset.
Review the checks
Fix anything flagged by moving or zooming the photo, or retake it. The checks warn about head size, tilt, expression, background, lighting and blur.

How to take a passport photo at home
The maker sizes and frames the photo, but it cannot fix how the photo was taken. A good original is what gets a photo accepted.
Plain, light background
Stand about half a meter in front of a plain white or light wall, or hang a white sheet. Avoid patterns, doors and furniture behind you.
Soft, even light
Face a window in daylight. Avoid overhead lights and flash, which cause shadows on the face and behind the head.
Camera at eye level
Have someone hold the camera level with your eyes, about 1 to 1.5 meters away. Selfies at arm's length distort the face.
Neutral expression
Look straight at the camera with both eyes open and the mouth closed. Keep hair away from the eyes and face.
No glasses or filters
Take glasses off unless your country allows them. Turn off beauty filters and portrait mode effects.
Wear something darker
Choose clothing that contrasts with a white background, and avoid uniforms and camouflage.
Common reasons passport photos are rejected
Shadows on the face or background
Uneven light from one side or behind leaves shadows. The lighting and background checks flag these.
Busy or colored background
Patterns, doors, posters or a colored wall. Retake against a plain light wall; editing the background is not allowed.
Head too small or too large
Each country sets a head size range. The head size check and the oval guide show where you are.
Head tilted or turned
The head must be straight and facing the camera. The tilt and facing checks measure this.
Smiling or mouth open
Most countries want a neutral expression with the mouth closed. The expression check flags open mouths and broad smiles.
Blurry, dark or edited
Soft focus, low light and filters all cause rejections. Use a sharp, untouched original.

Printing your passport photos
Choose a printed preset and a sheet size, then select Download print sheet. A 4 × 6 inch sheet fits six US 2 × 2 photos or eight 35 × 45 mm photos, with thin cut lines between them. 10 × 15 cm, 5 × 7 in, A4 and US Letter sheets are available too.
Upload the 4 × 6 sheet to a photo kiosk or a pharmacy or supermarket photo service as a standard 4 × 6 print, or print the A4 or Letter sheet on photo paper at home. Always print at 100% or actual size; fit to page changes the photo size. Cut along the lines with a ruler and a sharp blade. Photo counters print 4 × 6 borderless and may trim a little off the edges. Tick Safe margins for store printing to keep every photo clear of the edge; for 2 × 2 photos that means two per sheet instead of six. Not every country accepts photos you print yourself: Canada requires a commercial photographer, Germany only accepts digital photos from a certified studio or the passport office, and the UK asks for professional-quality prints.
Uploading a digital photo
Online applications check the pixel size and file size. Choose the digital preset for your application and the maker sets both, compressing the JPEG to fit under the limit at the highest quality it can, and telling you if the file is below a minimum.
Some services crop the photo themselves. GOV.UK asks for the whole, uncropped photo, so its preset keeps the full frame. If a form only states a file size, the passport photo compressor can bring an existing photo under the limit.

If no face is detected, for example in a baby's photo, the maker still opens so you can position the photo by hand using the guides.
Why the maker doesn't change the background
Many passport photo apps swap the background for white. The authorities that most of their users apply to say not to. The US State Department asks applicants not to change their photo with software, apps, filters or AI. The UK requires a photo that is “unaltered by computer software”. Canada treats “changing the background, including removing shadows” as an alteration and rejects the application, and Australia also rules out removing the background.
So this maker only crops, resizes and compresses the photo you took. The background check tells you whether it looks plain and light enough, so you can retake it instead of editing it. For an unofficial use that allows edits, such as a staff badge, the ID photo maker and the background remover are separate tools.

How do I make a 2x2 passport photo?
Choose United States: Passport, printed 2 × 2 in. The maker frames the head to 50 to 69% of the photo height and creates a 600 × 600 pixel image for 2 × 2 inch output at 300 DPI. The 4 × 6 inch print sheet fits six 2 × 2 photos with cut lines.
What size is a US passport photo for online renewal?
The online renewal accepts a photo file from 54 KB to 10 MB, framed like the 2 × 2 inch print. Choose United States: Passport online renewal (digital), which creates a square 1200 × 1200 pixel JPEG within that range. The 600 × 600 pixel, 240 KB limit applies to US visas and the DV lottery, which have their own preset.
What is the photo size for an Indian passport?
Indian passport applications made abroad through the Global Passport Seva Portal need an ICAO-compliant photo of 630 × 810 pixels in color on a white background, up to 250 KB, the same shape as a 35 × 45 mm print. Choose India: Passport (ICAO, 630 × 810 px). In India, the photo is taken at the Passport Seva Kendra during your appointment.
Should I crop my photo for a UK passport application online?
No. GOV.UK asks you not to crop a digital photo, because the service crops it for you. Choose United Kingdom: Passport online (digital, uncropped), which keeps the whole photo and makes sure it is at least 600 × 750 pixels and between 50 KB and 10 MB.
How many passport photos fit on a 4x6 sheet?
Six 2 × 2 inch photos, or eight 35 × 45 mm photos, fit on a 4 × 6 inch sheet. The maker also makes 10 × 15 cm, 5 × 7 in, A4 and US Letter sheets and shows how many photos fit before you download. Print at 100% or actual size, not fit to page. Photo counters print 4 × 6 borderless and may trim the edges, so tick Safe margins for store printing. Can I wear glasses in a passport photo?
It depends on the country. The US does not allow glasses except with a medical note, and India and Indonesia also ask you to remove them. The UK, the EU and the UAE may accept clear glasses without reflections or tinted lenses. Taking them off is the safest choice.
What background color should a passport photo have?
Most countries want a plain white or off-white background; the UK and the EU also accept cream or light grey. The India OCI card is an exception and asks for a plain light color that is not white. The table above lists the background for each preset.
Why does the tool not change the background to white?
Because altered photos are rejected. The US, UK, Canada and Australia all prohibit digital changes, and Canada specifically counts changing the background, including removing shadows, as an alteration. Take the photo against a plain light wall or a white sheet instead. The photo checks warn you if the background looks dark, colored or uneven.

Are my photos uploaded?
No. The photo is read, checked, framed and saved in your browser. The face detector's model file downloads to your browser when you add a photo, but your photo is never sent to ImgTweak or anyone else.
Can I make a passport photo for the Philippines, Indonesia or Malaysia?
For adult passports in these countries, the photo is taken at the passport office during your appointment, so you do not need to bring one. For visas and other documents that ask for a 35 × 45 mm photo, use the Standard 35 × 45 mm preset and check that application's rules.
Does the tool guarantee that my photo will be accepted?
No tool can. The maker controls size, framing and file size and warns about common problems, but the issuing authority decides whether a photo is acceptable. Compare your photo with the linked official requirements before you submit it.
What does DPI change?
DPI tells a printer how large to print the photo. For printed presets, the pixel size follows the DPI so the print stays the right physical size, and the DPI is saved in the JPEG. For online uploads, the pixel size and file size are what matter.
