How to batch compress images
Add your images
Drop files, choose multiple pictures or paste screenshots. The workspace opens immediately with filenames. Thumbnails load progressively with per-file status and a Stop loading option.
Choose requirements
Use quality-based compression or a maximum KB target. Set output format and optional dimension limits. Individual settings override batch defaults.
Review and download
Inspect file sizes, target status and a large comparison preview. Download each image or selected ready results as ZIP.

Meet file-size requirements across a batch
A quality setting produces different file sizes for different pictures. Maximum file size mode searches encoding quality within a bounded number of attempts, then reports whether the actual output fits. If you permit smaller dimensions, additional attempts reduce resolution proportionally. This preserves aspect ratio and never enlarges an image.
For example, apply a 200 KB maximum to a batch, then customize a signature or screenshot with a different requirement. Files that cannot meet the target remain clearly labelled. You can inspect them, change their individual settings and retry without processing the entire batch.
For a single upload requirement, try Reduce Image Size in KB, Compress Image to 200 KB or Photo and Signature Resizer.
Quality, format and transparency
JPG suits ordinary photographs but cannot retain transparency. The visible background color picker controls how transparent areas are filled for JPG. PNG retains transparency and uses lossless optimization. WebP and AVIF offer additional size-quality choices. A format change does not guarantee a smaller file. Compare edges, text and gradients before using the result.

A workspace for large batches
Search filenames, sort largest files first and filter failed files or targets that were not reached. Checkboxes control processing independently from the preview. Adding files selects the new images and preserves completed work. Compress selected skips unchanged completed results; Recompress selected explicitly runs them again.
Cancel stops the active encoder and prevents later queue items from starting. Completed results remain available. Settings changes mark affected results as outdated, so downloads do not silently use an old requirement. The CSV report records actual sizes and statuses. ZIP filenames include a sequence prefix to avoid collisions.
Original retention and metadata
An eligible original is retained when it is smaller and meets the requested format, dimensions and target. This avoids replacing it with a larger encoding. Retained originals keep their metadata. Re-encoded files discard source EXIF/GPS; disable original retention or use Remove EXIF Data and Remove Location from Photo when privacy is the priority.
Use the homepage image editor for cropping, adjustments and watermarking. This batch dashboard concentrates on file-size requirements and results management.
Browser processing and mobile performance
Image bytes stay in this browser session. Codecs load when needed, and encoding runs in a worker. Images process one at a time, including on mobile. The mobile workspace separates Images, Settings and Preview while keeping compression and download actions accessible.
There is no fixed input-byte or batch-count cap, but available memory is finite. A compressed photo can require much more memory when decoded. Large files display a warning, and very demanding files may fail. Individual downloads are useful when a ZIP is too large for the device. Read about local versus upload-based processing and large image file sizes.
Still images and animation
This tool handles still images. Detected GIF, animated WebP, APNG and AVIF animations are not silently reduced to one frame. Use Compress GIF for GIF compression and GIF Maker to build an animation. Multi-page TIFF input should first be separated into individual pictures.
Frequently asked questions
Can I choose a whole folder?
Yes. Choose folder or Folder in the workspace finds supported images, including subfolders. Review the image count and filenames, then click Add images. Files load progressively. Browsers may require their own permission or folder confirmation; those prompts cannot be styled by the site.
How do I compress multiple images at once?
Add your images, choose quality or a maximum KB target, select the files and click Compress selected. Inspect the actual results, then download individual images or selected ready files as ZIP.
What makes this different from the homepage compressor?
This workspace focuses on batch file-size requirements, individual overrides, selective processing, retries, results filtering and a downloadable report. The homepage also offers general image editing, cropping, adjustments and watermarking.
Can every photo be compressed below 200 KB?
Choose Maximum file size and enter 200. The tool makes bounded encoding attempts and reports whether each result fits. Smaller dimensions are used only with your permission. A target cannot be guaranteed for every image.
What formats are supported?
Still JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC/HEIF, BMP, single-page TIFF and JXL inputs are supported through available browser decoders. Outputs are JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF. Keep format preserves supported output types; other inputs are converted to JPG. Some files may fail because of decoder or device limits.
Will animated files stay animated?
This is a still-image workflow. GIFs, detected animated WebP, APNG and animated AVIF are not flattened here. Use Compress GIF for GIF animation. Multi-page TIFFs should be exported as separate images first.
Can I paste screenshots?
Yes. Ctrl+V or Cmd+V imports image data exposed by the clipboard. Multiple image items are accepted when available. Copying a file path, URL or HTML does not always provide image bytes. Drag and drop or Choose images remains available. Mobile clipboard support varies.
Is there an upload limit?
There is no fixed file-count or input-byte limit. Large files show a warning. Available browser memory and codec support impose practical limits. Files process sequentially; use individual downloads if a large ZIP cannot be created.
Will my images be uploaded?
Image processing and ZIP creation run in your browser. Files are kept in this session, not sent to an image-processing server. Download your results before closing or reloading the page.
Does PNG quality change?
PNG uses lossless encoding and optimization, so the quality slider does not quantize its palette. Meeting a very small target may require explicitly permitting smaller dimensions or choosing another output format.
Does compression remove metadata?
Re-encoded outputs discard source EXIF and GPS metadata. If Keep original retains a smaller eligible original, that file is unchanged and keeps its metadata. Disable that option or use Remove EXIF Data if metadata removal is required.
What happens when I add more images?
The newly added files are selected. Earlier completed results remain available and are not automatically recompressed. Changed settings mark affected results as outdated. Recompress selected explicitly processes completed files again.
