How to compress AVIF files
Add AVIF images
Choose files, drop images or review a folder. The workspace opens immediately while thumbnails load. Select a row to inspect its preview.
Choose your requirements
Use a preset or adjust quality. Enter a maximum KB limit when needed. Keep dimensions unchanged or allow proportional resizing.
Compare and download
Compress selected files, inspect the original/result slider and review actual sizes. Download individual AVIF files or ready selected results as ZIP.
Pair this with
Choose quality, speed and colour detail
Balanced is the starting point. Fast prioritizes processing time, while Smaller file lowers quality and spends more encoding effort. Inspect text, edges and fine texture before downloading. Compression savings vary; an already optimized AVIF may not become smaller.
Advanced settings include chroma subsampling, transparency quality and lossless encoding. Full colour detail can help graphics and coloured text; photographic presets use reduced colour resolution. Mobile devices use a conservative encoding speed. Lossless refers to processed pixels and does not preserve every original file property.
For strict targets, the worker makes a limited quality search. It only reduces dimensions when you permit it, and marks results that still exceed the limit. Cancel processing keeps completed files. Download original lets you keep an already efficient source, including its metadata.
AVIF compression limitations and privacy
This is an 8-bit still-image workflow. Detected animation, HDR and high-bit-depth AVIF inputs are rejected. Re-encoded files discard source EXIF/GPS and do not preserve original colour profiles, auxiliary images or HDR gain maps. Inspect colour and transparency before using the output. There is no fixed batch cap, but your device still has finite memory.

AVIF compressor FAQs
Can I compress AVIF without uploading it?
Yes. Files are decoded and encoded locally in your browser. The codec is loaded when needed. Images are not sent to an image-processing server.
Can I select a folder or multiple AVIF files?
Yes. Choose AVIF images or a folder, review its files, then open the workspace immediately. Thumbnails prepare progressively. Stop loading skips remaining files while preserving prepared images.
Can I compress AVIF to 100 KB or 200 KB?
Choose Maximum file size and enter your KB limit. The tool performs bounded encoding attempts. If the target is not reached, it reports that result. Smaller dimensions are used only when you allow them. Targets are not guaranteed.
Why is my compressed AVIF larger?
AVIF files may already be optimized. New encoder settings or lossless encoding can produce larger outputs. Inspect the measured size and download the original if preferred. Originals keep metadata; re-encoded outputs remove source EXIF/GPS.
Is quality 100 lossless?
No. Choose the separate Lossless encoding option. It preserves the processed decoded pixels, not the original compressed bitstream, colour profile or metadata. Resizing changes pixels even in lossless mode.
Does it keep a transparent background?
Yes. AVIF transparency remains enabled. Its quality is independently adjustable in advanced settings, with full transparency quality selected by default.
Can it compress animated or HDR AVIF?
This tool supports still 8-bit AVIF. Detected animated, high-bit-depth and HDR inputs are rejected rather than silently flattened or downgraded. Original colour profiles and special AVIF auxiliary data are not preserved by re-encoding.
Is there an image count or upload-size limit?
There is no arbitrary image-count or input-byte limit. Device memory, browser support and decoder capabilities impose practical limits. Large files show a warning. Processing is sequential; individual downloads can avoid a large ZIP.
Can I cancel processing?
Yes. Cancel stops unfinished compression and keeps completed results. Use Compress selected to continue remaining unchanged files. Every attempt starts from the original, avoiding repeated compression of a previous result.
Can I paste an image?
Paste imports AVIF image bytes when the clipboard supplies them. Screenshots usually arrive as PNG, while copied paths and URLs may supply no image bytes. Use a converter for other formats, or choose an AVIF file.
