The sheet is a 4 × 6 inch JPEG at 300 DPI (1200 × 1800 pixels) with thin cut lines along every photo edge. The print resolution is saved in the file, so it prints at the right size. The maker picks the layout that fits the most photos.

In October 2026, a 4 × 6 print was listed from $0.18 at Walmart, about $0.33 at Walgreens (catalog) and about $0.42 at CVS, before promotions. Costco closed its in-store photo centers in 2021.
Store prints are borderless, and some labs enlarge a print slightly so it reaches the paper edge. That can trim the outer photos and make each one a little larger than it should be. Safe margins keep every photo at least 5 mm from the edge. Always print at 100% or actual size, never fit to page.
Use 4 × 6 photo paper, your printer's best photo quality, 100% or actual size, and borderless printing off. The US asks for matte or glossy photo-quality paper with no visible printer dots, so plain paper won't do. Print a test and measure it first.
Lay the print on a cutting mat and cut along the gray lines with a metal ruler and a sharp craft knife, or a paper trimmer. Cut the long lines first, then the short ones. Keep the photos flat, with no creases, holes or smudges.
Printing your own photos saves money, but not every country allows it. Check before you print.
Accepted. The State Department lets any company that offers photo services, or a friend or family member, take the photo. It must be printed on matte or glossy photo-quality paper with no visible printer dots, and not edited.
Official rulesUnclear for home prints. GOV.UK asks for photos printed to a professional standard on plain white photo paper with no border, not cut down from a larger picture. A photo shop print is the safer choice.
Official rulesNot accepted. Canada does not accept photos printed at home; a commercial photographer must take them and stamp or write their details and the date on the back.
Official rulesNot accepted. Since May 2025, passport photos must be digital, from a certified studio or the passport office.
Official rulesThe editor stops offering a print sheet for presets where home printing is refused, and shows a caution for the UK and Germany. For sizes and rules in other countries, see the passport photo maker.
The same editor makes 10 × 15 cm sheets (the metric version of 4 × 6), 5 × 7 in sheets, and A4 or US Letter sheets for home printers, with more photos per page. Choose the sheet under Print sheet in the editor. For a digital photo to upload instead, download the JPEG; an Indian passport application from abroad needs the 630 × 810 pixel ICAO photo.
Six 2 × 2 inch photos fit exactly, in a grid of two by three, or eight 35 × 45 mm photos. With Safe margins for store printing switched on, a 4 × 6 holds two 2 × 2 photos or still eight 35 × 45 mm photos, all at least 5 mm from the edge.
Yes. Download the sheet and order it as a standard 4 × 6 print, online or at the photo counter. You pay the price of one 4 × 6 print instead of a passport photo service. Choose the full image or no-crop option if offered, and check the preview before you pay.
A single 4 × 6 print usually costs well under a dollar. In October 2026, Walmart listed 4 × 6 prints from $0.18, Walgreens about $0.33 and CVS about $0.42 before promotions. Prices change, so check the store.
Either is fine for a US passport: the State Department accepts matte or glossy photo-quality paper. Matte shows fewer reflections when the photo is scanned, which some people prefer.
Most often the sheet was scaled to fit the paper, or a borderless print trimmed the edges. Print at 100% or actual size, turn off auto-enhance and auto-crop, and use Safe margins for store printing. Measure one photo before cutting: a US photo must be exactly 2 × 2 inches.
Yes, on photo paper in your printer's best photo quality, at 100% or actual size with borderless printing turned off. Plain paper is not accepted, and the photo must not show printer dots. Print a test and measure it with a ruler first.
For a US passport, yes, as long as it meets the photo rules. Canada does not accept home-printed photos, Germany only accepts digital photos from a studio or the passport office, and the UK asks for professional-quality prints. Check your country before printing.
