How to split an image into carousel slides

Create an ordered carousel in five steps. Everything runs locally in your browser.

01

Upload one wide image

Choose a JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF design. The image stays on your device.

02

Choose the slide layout

Select square, portrait or Pinterest vertical slides, then choose 2 to 10 panels.

03

Adjust the framing

Keep the full image with padding, or choose Crop to fill and drag the outlined frame over the photo. Numbered lines show every cut.

04

Create the slides

Export numbered JPEG or PNG files with matching dimensions and adjoining edges.

05

Download in order

Download individual slides or save the complete ordered set as one ZIP file.

Built for seamless carousel designs

See the complete strip while you work and export files that stay easy to identify.

Live cut preview

Numbered dividers show exactly where the wide design will be split before you export it.

Drag to reposition

In Crop to fill mode, move the crop frame over the full photo. Shaded areas show what will be excluded.

Choose what to keep

Keep the entire picture with padding, or crop adjoining panels to fill each slide edge to edge.

Numbered file names

Files are named 01, 02, 03 and onward so their intended upload order remains easy to follow.

Individual or ZIP download

Save only the slides you need or download the complete carousel in a single ZIP file.

Private browser processing

Cropping and encoding happen locally in your browser. The source image is not sent to our server.

Choose the right slide shape

The preset controls the dimensions of every exported panel. Pick the shape that matches your design and publishing destination.

The complete preview becomes wider as you add slides. The cut lines stay equal, so every exported image has the same aspect ratio and pixel dimensions.

Plan a carousel that swipes cleanly

1

Design the full strip first

For three square slides, start with a 3:1 composition. For five portrait slides, use a combined 4:1 composition because five 4:5 panels placed side by side produce that overall ratio.

2

Keep key content away from cuts

Use the numbered boundaries to check faces, words, logos and buttons. Small background details can cross a cut, but key information should remain readable on one slide.

3

Upload slides in numbered order

Start with 01 and continue in sequence. The adjoining edges create the visual handoff as a viewer swipes from one panel to the next.

4

Check the final platform preview

Social platforms can crop thumbnails or compress uploaded files. Review the post preview before publishing, especially when text sits near an outside edge.

JPEG or PNG for carousel slides?

Choose JPEG for photographs, textured designs and smaller files. JPEG fills transparent areas with white.

Choose PNG for transparency, logos, screenshots and graphics with crisp text. PNG files may be larger.

Private by design

The tool uses your browser's image decoder and Canvas API. Your original file is not uploaded to ImgTweak, and the generated ZIP is assembled on your device.

Each slide is a newly encoded file, so camera details and GPS metadata from the source are not copied into the output.

Frequently asked questions

How does the carousel image splitter work?

Keep full image divides your entire picture into equal slices and fits each slice inside the selected slide size with padding. Crop to fill uses an adjustable crop and fills each slide edge to edge. The full source photo remains visible in both modes.

Will the carousel line up without gaps?

Crop to fill exports adjoining areas without padding or overlap. Keep full image can add padding when the source does not match the combined slide ratio. Upload numbered files in order and check the platform preview before publishing.

Can I move each cut line separately?

No. Cut lines remain equally spaced. In Crop to fill mode, drag the outlined frame over the full photo to choose the source area. Shaded areas are excluded from the export.

How many carousel slides can I create?

You can create 2 to 10 slides. Pinterest documents 2 to 5 images for a standard static carousel. Check the current rules on your destination platform before publishing.

Should I choose JPEG or PNG?

JPEG is usually smaller and works well for photographs. PNG preserves transparency and sharp graphic edges, but its files can be larger. Transparent pixels are filled with white when you choose JPEG.

Why does the tool warn that my image may be enlarged?

The source area available for one slide has fewer pixels than the selected output size. The tool can still export it, but enlarging a small source may make fine details look softer.

Does the tool upload or store my image?

No. Your browser reads, crops and re-encodes the image on your device. The individual files and ZIP are also created locally.

Does exported image metadata remain in the slides?

The tool draws each crop onto a new canvas and creates a new image file. Original EXIF details, including camera and GPS metadata, are not copied into the exported slides.
