Add JPG images
Click the large drop area or drag in one or more .jpg or .jpeg files. The JPEG XL encoder loads only after you select an image.
Convert JPG and JPEG photos to JPEG XL with adjustable quality. Process several images on your device and download each JXL file without uploading your pictures.

JPEG XL can create efficient photo files, but app and browser support varies. Keep the original JPG when compatibility is required.

All processing stays in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Click the large drop area or drag in one or more .jpg or .jpeg files. The JPEG XL encoder loads only after you select an image.
Move the quality slider before adding files. A higher value retains more detail, while a lower value usually creates a smaller file.
Each JPEG is decoded and encoded as a new JPEG XL image on your device. Processing time depends on the image dimensions and device speed.
Download each completed JXL image or save multiple results together in a ZIP file.
The browser decodes the JPG into pixels, then uses a JPEG XL encoder to create a new .jxl file. The output keeps the image width and height but does not preserve the original JPEG bitstream or metadata.
Because the source is already lossy, conversion cannot recover missing texture, color detail or sharpness. Choose enough JXL quality to avoid adding visible degradation.
| Feature | JPG source | JXL output |
|---|---|---|
| Compatibility | Very broad | Varies by app and browser |
| Compression in this tool | Already compressed | Lossy with quality control |
| Transparency | Not supported | Possible in the format, but absent from JPG input |
| Metadata | May contain EXIF or GPS | Removed by this converter |
| Best use | Sharing and universal support | Supported modern workflows and testing |
The default quality of 75 is a practical starting point, but the best setting depends on the source. Photos with texture, fine hair or gradients may need a higher value. Lower values can reduce file size while increasing visible compression changes.
A newer format does not guarantee that every converted file will be smaller. Compare the displayed sizes and inspect important images before use. Keep the original JPG when the destination has uncertain JPEG XL support.
The JPEG XL encoder is lazy loaded only after you add a JPG. Decoding and encoding then happen on your device through WebAssembly, so the source image is not sent to an image conversion server.
Encoding can use much more memory than the compressed input file. Large photos may take longer on mobile devices. If the browser becomes slow, process fewer images together. After ten files, the results use an internal scroll area to keep the page manageable.

JXL is the filename extension for JPEG XL, a modern image format designed for efficient lossy and lossless image compression, wide color, high bit depth, transparency and progressive decoding.
No. Converting cannot restore detail that the original JPG compression already removed. A suitable JXL quality can preserve the visible appearance while changing the storage format.
The default conversion is lossy and uses the selected quality. Even a lossless JXL encode would only preserve the decoded JPG pixels, not recover the original camera data or reverse earlier JPEG loss.
Yes. The converter keeps the decoded pixel width and height. It does not resize or crop the image.
No. The tool creates a new image from decoded pixels and does not copy the original JPG metadata. This includes EXIF, GPS, comments and embedded thumbnails.
The source JPG may already be strongly compressed, or the selected JXL quality may be higher than the effective quality of the source. Lower the quality if file size is your main concern.
No. JPEG XL support varies by browser, operating system, editor and upload service. Check the destination before deleting the original JPG.
Yes. Add multiple JPG images, download each result separately or download completed files as a ZIP. After ten files, the list scrolls inside the tool.
No. JPG decoding and JPEG XL encoding run locally in your browser through WebAssembly.
Choose a JPEG XL quality, add one or more JPG images and download the converted files privately.
