Built for profile pictures that look sharp everywhere

Every control is designed around the one thing you actually need: a clean, perfectly centred circle.

Drag to reposition

The circle stays fixed. Drag the image underneath it to centre your subject perfectly. Works the same way as every major social platform's upload flow.

Scroll or pinch to zoom

Scroll wheel on desktop or two-finger pinch on mobile. The zoom slider gives precise control for dialling in the exact crop you want.

Custom border ring

Add a border around the circle in any color. Choose from six quick presets or pick any color with the native color picker. Adjust the thickness from 1 to 20px with a slider. The border scales correctly at every output size.

Four output sizes

256px for small avatars and icons. 512px for WhatsApp and Discord. 800px for LinkedIn. 1024px for high-DPI displays and future-proofing.

Transparent PNG or WebP output

The area outside the circle is fully transparent in both output formats. PNG is lossless. WebP gives a smaller file at equivalent quality. Both sit cleanly on any background color on every platform that supports them.

No uploads, fully private

Your photo never leaves your device. The crop runs locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Disconnect from the internet and it still works.

Where circular profile pictures are used

LinkedIn

800x800px recommended

LinkedIn displays profile photos as circles in feeds, search results and on profile pages. A high-resolution circular crop at 800px covers every display size including high-DPI screens.

WhatsApp

512x512px optimal

WhatsApp processes uploaded photos at up to 640px. A 512px output gives a sharp result with a manageable file size that uploads quickly on mobile connections.

Discord

512x512px or 1024x1024px

Discord displays server avatars and user profile pictures as circles. The 1024px option is recommended for server icons that appear on both small and large displays.

Telegram

512x512px recommended

Telegram displays all profile photos as circles in chats, groups and channels. The 512px output is the ideal balance of quality and file size for Telegram.

Twitter and X

400x400px minimum

Twitter and X crop profile photos to a circle automatically in the interface but accept the original square image. Using a pre-cropped circle gives you more control over exactly what shows.

GitHub and developer platforms

256px to 512px

GitHub, GitLab, npm and most developer platforms use small circular avatars. The 256px or 512px output is perfectly suited for these contexts.

Tips for a great profile picture

Use the highest resolution source you have

The circle crop downsamples to your chosen output size. Starting with a 2000px photo and outputting at 512px gives a sharper result than starting with a 600px photo.

Centre your face with space around it

Leave a small margin between your head and the circle edge. Profiles where the face is tightly cropped to the edge often look cut off when displayed at small sizes in chat and feed views.

Good lighting matters more than resolution

A well-lit photo at 512px looks more professional than a blurry or dimly lit photo at 1024px. Natural light facing toward you gives the most flattering, sharp result.

Use a plain or uncluttered background

Circles display at small sizes in most feeds and chats. A simple background keeps the focus on your face and ensures it reads clearly at any size.

Add a border if your photo background is white

If your photo has a white background and the platform displays circles on a white page, add a subtle border using the border option to give the circle visible edges.

Frequently asked questions

What format does the circle crop download as?

You can download as PNG or WebP. Both formats support a fully transparent background, so the area outside the circle is transparent rather than white. PNG is lossless and universally supported. WebP produces a smaller file at equivalent quality and also supports transparency. Choose WebP if file size matters and the platform you are uploading to accepts it.

What output size should I choose for LinkedIn?

LinkedIn recommends a minimum of 400x400 pixels and displays profile photos up to 800x800 pixels on high-DPI screens. The 800px option in this tool is the best choice for LinkedIn profile pictures as it covers all display sizes comfortably.

What size should I use for WhatsApp?

WhatsApp accepts profile photos up to 640x640 pixels and displays them at much smaller sizes in chat. The 512px option is ideal since it matches the maximum WhatsApp processes internally and keeps the file size small.

How do I position my face inside the circle?

After uploading your photo, drag the image inside the circular frame to position your subject. Use the zoom slider or scroll wheel on desktop, or pinch with two fingers on mobile, to zoom in or out until the framing looks right. The frame stays fixed while the image moves underneath it.

Why does my circle have a white background on some platforms?

Both PNG and WebP output files have a transparent background. However, some apps and platforms do not support transparency and fill it with white automatically. LinkedIn, WhatsApp and most modern platforms render the transparent background correctly and show the circle against whatever background color is behind it. If a platform fills transparency with white, try adding a border ring that contrasts with white, or choose a background color that matches the platform.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The circle crop runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your photo never leaves your device. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool still works completely.

Can I add a border around the circle?

Yes. Toggle the border option on and choose any color using six quick presets (white, black, blue, red, green, yellow) or pick any custom color with the built-in color picker. Set the thickness anywhere from 1 to 20px using the slider. The border is baked into the output file at the correct weight relative to the chosen output size so it looks sharp at every resolution.
